My interest in radio began with shortwave listening, where I enjoyed tuning in to faraway stations from English-speaking countries. This led me to get involved in CB radio to communicate with other stations. Despite initially hesitating due to my reluctance to learn Morse code, my friend Chris encouraged me to pursue a ham license. In 1992, I joined a local license class and obtained my tech license, allowing me to operate on amateur radio frequencies. As a tech licensee, I installed radios at home and in my car, particularly enjoying listening on 6 meters. Around 2005, I became interested in amateur radio emergency services to assist my community, pursuing relevant training. At a Hamfest in Richmond, I discovered the Virginia Army Mars Program and obtained my Mars license, broadening my involvement in radio communication. Subsequently, I obtained my general license, enabling worldwide voice communications with other radio operators. Additionally, my passion for technology led me to explore digital modes of radio communication, such as FT8, Vara FM, Vara HF, Winlink, and JS8CAll. I particularly enjoy contesting as it allows me to enhance my radio listening skills, which could be valuable in aiding my community through amateur radio. As I continue to delve into amateur radio and digital modes, I plan to share my experiences and information through blogging. If you’re interested in amateur radio, I invite you to join me on this journey. Thank you for reading!
